Leinster trio Paddy McCarthy, Scott Penny and Jordan Larmour have all signed new deals with the province.

The new deals come a day after Tommy O’Brien, Brian Deeny and Stephen Smyth signed new deals with Leinster, while former loosehead Ed Byrne rejoined the club from Cardiff on a short-term loan.

Larmour had previously been linked with a move to Irish rivals Connacht, but Leinster have managed to retain the winger’s services.

Both Larmour and McCarthy are Ireland internationals, with the loosehead making his Test debut in the Autumn Nations Series.

The pair are currently sidelined with long-term injuries. Larmour is still nursing a hamstring injury which has prevented him from featuring in 2026, while McCarthy is out for the remainder of the season following surgery on a foot injury he picked up in January.

Penny, meanwhile, became a Leinster centurion last month, and featured from the bench in the recent Investec Champions Cup quarter-final victory over Sale Sharks.

The trio have all come through the Leinster academy.

McCarthy is joined by a number of loosehead props in Leinster’s treatment room currently, which forced his side to bring in Byrne from Cardiff for the rest of the season.

Andrew Porter and Jack Boyle were already absent from the Champions Cup tie with Sale, but Alex Usanov’s early withdrawal due to an ankle injury plunged the club deeper into an injury crisis.

Leinster boss Leo Cullen said Byrne’s arrival “will be a timely boost to our front-row options during what is a very busy and competitive stage of the season. We’re very grateful to Cardiff Rugby for their understanding and cooperation in facilitating this move.”
