Gloucester deliver huge update on Jack Singleton's future a year after cardiac event

Gloucester have provided a major update on England international Jack Singleton, with the hooker entering the final phase of his rehabilitation almost 12 months after suffering a cardiac event in training.

Singleton has undergone an extensive recovery programme with the support of Gloucester and external specialists, and has now reached the point where a return to full training is being considered, subject to successfully completing the remaining stages of his rehabilitation.

The Cherry and Whites have stressed that the four-cap international’s long-term health and wellbeing have remained the priority throughout the process, having supported the former Saracens and Worcester Warriors hooker since the incident in September last year.

However, any potential return to action will not come in Gloucester colours. The club have confirmed that Singleton will not be contracted at Kingsholm for the 2026/27 season, leaving the 30-year-old to consider the next step in his playing career should he complete his return to full training.

The update nevertheless represents significant progress for Singleton after almost a year on the sidelines, with Gloucester head coach George Skivington praising both the player’s recovery and the work of the club’s medical department since the incident.

Skivington said: “As friends and colleagues, everyone at the club has been pleased to see Jack’s progress in his health and wellbeing following what was undoubtedly a frightening experience for him and his family.

“I’m incredibly proud of our medical department for the care and support they have provided throughout Jack’s journey, from recognising the symptoms early to coordinating specialist treatment and guiding his rehabilitation.”

Singleton added: “I’d like to thank everyone at Gloucester, the staff, my friends and family, and the supporters for the incredible support I’ve had over the last year. It has meant a huge amount to me.”

Gloucester get their Gallagher PREM season underway in just over a month’s time, with a trip to Exeter Chiefs in the opening round.
