Canada name reshuffled XV for record-breaking England clash

Canada have recalled Alysha Corrigan and Sophie de Goede for Friday’s WXV Global Series clash with England in Toronto.

Changes include a return for Corrigan and Asia Hogan-Rochester on the wing. Corrigan missed September’s fixtures against Scotland, England and France with injury. It will be the 29-year-old’s first Test appearance since the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 final.

Alexandra Tessier moves to fly-half, prompting Taylor Perry to shift to inside centre, where she will partner Florence Symonds.

In the pack there is a return for Sophie de Goede. The World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Year was rested for Canada’s 21-5 loss to France three weeks ago. Her inclusion at lock, alongside Laetitia Royer, sees Rachel Smith move to blindside flanker.

Julia Omokhuale and Lizzie Gibson complete the back-row, while Mikiela Nelson, Kiki Idowu and DaLeaka Menin form the front-row.

Friday’s fixture is expected to be played in front of almost 18,000 supporters at BMO Field, which will smash the attendance record for a standalone women’s rugby fixture in North America.

Kévin Rouet, Canada head coach, said: “It’s been good to be back in Canada to practice and prepare knowing we will have a record-breaking crowd backing us on Friday night.

“These opportunities to play at home in front of our fans don’t come along very often, so we are focused on the fine details of our game and have been grinding the past few weeks to make sure we are ready. It’s going to be fun. We are excited to walk out of that tunnel on Friday.”
