Valence Romans

History of Valence Romans Drôme Rugby

Valence Romans Drôme Rugby was founded in 2016, following the merger of US Romans Péage and ROC La Voulte Valence. The team is commonly known amongst French rugby fans as Valence Romans or VRDR.

The team began the 2016-2017 season in Fédérale 1, the division where US Romans Péage, the higher ranked of the two entities, was located. After initial struggles, the club was then promoted to the Pro D2 at the end of the 2018-19 season. However, they finished bottom of the table in their first season in the competition and were relegated once again at the conclusion of the following season (relegation was cancelled in their first season due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic).

Valence Romans Drôme Rugby were then promoted to the Pro D2 once more for the start of the 2023-24 season. This time, they survived in the Pro D2 and finished in a respectable 11th position. They’ve stayed at this level of the competition ever since.

Valence Romans Drôme Rugby is still a young club. We can’t wait to see what else the team can achieve on its journey through the French rugby system.
