Chris Latham Bio

Chris Latham is a former fullback and winger who enjoyed a highly distinguished career with the Queensland Reds and Australia. He represented his country at three Rugby World Cups and was voted as the Australian Super Rugby Player of the Year four times. Chris Latham was inducted into the RugbyPass Hall of Fame in 2021.

Born 8 September 1975, Chris Latham began his Super Rugby career with the New South Wales Waratahs in 1997. However, after only making 10 appearances for the side, he left for the Queensland Reds in 1998. Over the course of the next decade, Chris Latham made more than 100 appearances for the Reds and became the first player in the history of Super Rugby to win the Australian Super Rugby Player of the Year award four times (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005).

In 2008, Chris Latham announced he was leaving the Queensland Reds and joining Worcester Warriors in the English Premiership. When he signed for the club, he became the competition’s second-highest earner. After a few successful seasons with Worcester Warriors, Chris Latham left England and signed for Kyuden Voltex in Japan. He took on a player-coach role with the club and helped them reach the Japanese top flight before he retired in 2012.

Although he enjoyed a highly distinguished domestic career, Chris Latham is best known for his international career. He was capped by the Wallabies 78 times between 1998 and 2007 and he made appearances in three editions of the Rugby World Cup, including the victorious 1999 campaign. During his international career, he was a prolific try scorer and he was the first backline player to be awarded the John Eales Medal.

When his playing career came to a close in 2012, Chris Latham embarked on a coaching career. Since, he’s worked as an assistant coach for the NTT Docomo Red Hurricanes and Samoa. He’s also been the head coach of the Utah Warriors.
