The Hong Kong men's national rugby union team represents Hong Kong in men's rugby union. The team plays in both the Asia Rugby Championship and the newly formed World Rugby Nations Cup. Since 1952, the sport of rugby union has been administered by Hong Kong China Rugby.
Rugby has been played in Hong Kong China since the 19th century, when it was introduced by British colonialists. Although the sport was primarily associated with British settlers over the next 100 years, in recent decades we’ve seen a switch. Ever since the 1990s, the game has been embraced by the Cantonese Chinese community. As a result, local born players such as ‘Rambo’ Leung Yeung Kit have both emerged and flourished.
Since the late 2010s, Hong Kong China have dominated the Asia Rugby Championship, claiming victories in 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. The team also made the repechage section of Rugby World Cup qualifying in 2015, 2019 and 2023.
In 2026, the Hong Kong China rugby team will make their debut in the newly formed World Rugby Nations Cup. Then, in 2027, they will appear at the Rugby World Cup for the first time. They achieved qualification for the tournament by winning the 2025 Asia Rugby Championship.
