Zarn Sullivan has signed a new deal with the Blues, keeping him in the City of Sails until 2028.

A Maori All Black in 2025, Sullivan will play his 50th game for the Blues when his club hosts the Highlanders on Friday evening at Eden Park.

The 25-year-old made his debut for the club in 2021, having moved from his hometown of Napier to Auckland during high school to attend King’s College, a move his brother, Hurricanes utility back Bailyn, had previously made. The brothers were on opposing teams in Zarn’s aforementioned Blues debut.

Once in the Auckland system, it was a steady rise for Sullivan, whose experience playing first five-eighth throughout the age grades set him up well for a professional career at fullback. At 193 cm, he is the tallest starting fullback of the five Kiwi Super Rugby clubs.

“This club means a lot to me. I’ve come through the system here and had incredible support from the coaches, players and staff along the way,” Sullivan said.

“I feel like I’ve still got more to achieve and a lot more to give. I’m excited about where this group is heading and grateful to be part of it for the next few years.”

Blues GM Rugby Murray Williams was thrilled to keep Sullivan’s infamous left boot in the Blues’ arsenal.

“Zarn represents many of the things we value in our environment. He’s come through our pathway, understands our game model, and has a genuine connection to the Blues jersey,” he said.

“He’s shown real growth over the past few seasons, and we believe his best rugby is still ahead of him. Securing him through to 2028 gives us continuity and excitement in a key position.”
