Where are they now? Danny Care's Harlequins team in first start for club
Danny Care has announced his retirement after making a club-record 394 appearances for Harlequins and is hoping to make a final outing against Exeter Chiefs at the Twickenham Stoop on Sunday.
Care is managing a knee injury and made his first Premiership start in a 9–3 win over Bath at the Stoop on 6 January 2007, when first-choice No.9 Steve So’oialo was rested.
Then the club’s third-choice scrum-half, Care had a try disallowed but played a key role in a match won through a dominant forward display and three Adrian Jarvis penalties, avenging two recent European losses to Bath. Olly Barkley landed a penalty for the visitors, who were captained by Steve Borthwick.
Care’s performance impressed two veteran observers. Paul Ackford wrote in The Sunday Telegraph that “he had a fine game once he worked out how to play the conditions.” Stephen Jones in The Sunday Times said he “was also a calming influence, although his kicking game did disintegrate later on.”
