Top 14 outfit US Montauban have announced the signing of rising Western Force star Vaiolini Ekuasi ahead of next season.

The 24-year-old Tongan, formerly with the Blues and Rebels before the latter’s demise, has been a strong presence for Simon Cron’s side in 2026, with five starts in the loose forwards.

In those five starts, Ekuasi has proven himself to be one of Super Rugby’s most productive talents on both sides of the ball, with the seventh most tackles and ninth most carries through the first six rounds of the competition. His efforts have seen him claim 16 points in the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific player of the Year voting, 11 behind leaders Ben Donaldson and Quinn Tupaea.

Ekuasi holds one of just four starting No.8 berths in Australia, joining Wallabies Harry Wilson, Pete Samu, and Charlie Cale.

An announcement from the French club this week has revealed that the current season will be Ekuasi’s last in Western Australia, with a two-year deal seeing him shift north until 2028. Ekuasi will link up with fellow Tongan Vaea Fifita at his new club.

US Montauban have just one win from their 20 games thus far in the Top 14 season and sit dead last on the table, facing relegation at the season’s end, just one season after earning promotion to the Top 14, following 15 years in Pro D2.
