Wales second-row Seb Davies switches Welsh URC sides
Wales second-row Seb Davies has swapped Cardiff Rugby for Dragons RFC after agreeing a deal ahead of the 2025/26 season.
Davies, a versatile 6’8, 119kg forward who can also play flanker and No.8, will join Rodney Parade based side from Cardiff this summer.
The 28-year-old lock is the club’s eighth new signing and joins Tinus de Beer, Thomas Young, Wyn Jones, Dillon Lewis, Fine Inisi, Levi Douglas and Harry Beddall.
“We’re really pleased to be able to bring Seb into our environment and excited by what he’ll bring to our squad,” said head coach Filo Tiatia. “Seb brings a vast amount of playing experience, having also featured at international level, and is a powerful second row who has real versatility to his game.
“His best rugby years are ahead of him, and I know he is very motivated to make an impact at our club in the seasons to come.”
Davies debuted for Cardiff in the 2014/15 season and reached 150 appearances earlier this season. He has earned 17 caps for Wales since his 2017 debut against Tonga, but hasn’t played a Test since 2022.
“I’m excited about the move as the future looks bright for Dragons,” said Davies. “The club has already made plenty of positive signings and have a great hardworking core group already there.
“I’m also excited about playing for the loyal fans at Rodney Parade. The atmosphere is always brilliant when I’ve played there in the past and I look forward to now having their support right behind me.”
Forwards Coach Sam Hobbs added: “I’m excited to bring a player of Seb’s quality into our squad for next season. Approaching the prime of his career, Seb is vastly experienced in the BKT United Rugby Championship and has international experience with Wales.
“Seb possesses a real athletic point of difference with his ability to line break and offload in attack, along with being an excellent lineout athlete with impressive speed into the air.
“I’m looking forward to Seb bringing his edge to our forward pack next season, competing with a strong second row group, and also passing his knowledge on to exciting young prospects like Nick Thomas and Barny Langton-Cryer.”
