Wales make two additions to their Six Nations coaching team
Former Grand Slam winner Adam Jones has been appointed as Wales’ scrum coach for the 2025 Six Nations.
The 43-year-old joins Warren Gatland’s backroom team for the duration of the Championship on secondment from Harlequins.
Jones, who won 95 caps for Wales between 2003 and 2014, will work alongside existing forwards coach and former team-mate, Jon Humphreys.
Psychology and human performance specialist Andy McCann has also come on board as Wales look to improve on last year’s disappointing campaign, which ended with only their second whitewash in Six Nations history.
Speaking about the appointments Gatland said: “I’m delighted that Adam and Andy will be joining us for the Guinness Six Nations and I’d like to thank Harlequins for allowing Adam to take up this opportunity.
“With less than two weeks to our first game against France in Paris, we will be working hard as a group to maximise our preparation and start our campaign on a high.”
Jones added: “First of all, I would like to thank Harlequins for the opportunity to join the Wales coaching setup for the Six Nations.
“I’m looking forward to working with Gats and Humphs, two big influences on my career as a player – it’s all moved quickly but I’m looking forward to it”
“It’s going to be a challenge coming from the Gallagher Premiership and this is my first taste of coaching international rugby, so there will be a learning process for me as well but it’s a great opportunity to make an impact and aid my development as a coach.”
Jones will link up with Gatland’s coaching staff after Harlequins’ Gallagher Premiership fixture against Northampton Saints at The Stoop on Friday, January 24th.
While fulfilling his scrum consultancy role, Jones will continue to be integrated into Danny Wilson’s coaching team and provide remote scrum analysis throughout the Premiership Rugby Cup campaign.
Former Harlequins hooker and head coach of Strategic Club Partner London Scottish, Joe Gray will also lean in to assist the coaching room during the Premiership Cup period for fixtures against Ealing Trailfinders and Saracens.
Following Wales’ final Guinness Six Nations fixture against England at the Principality Stadium on Saturday, March 15th, Jones will return to club duty as the Premiership sparks back into life with The Showdown fixture against Saracens at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
