New Zealand Rugby have today confirmed the appointment of two new executives for 2026 and beyond, with Chris Kinraid being named Chief Financial Officer and Chris Brown as the Chief Commercial Officer.

Kinraid previously held the Group Chief Financial Officer role at KMD Brands, but more recently the Chief Executive Officer role at Hallenstein Glasson Holdings Limited.

“He brings deep financial and executive leadership experience and will play a key role in driving the delivery of NZR’s all-of-game strategy,” NZR said.

Brown has recently held the roles of the Chief Customer Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald’s Australia, as well as being a member of the global marketing team.

Brown brings understanding and experience in advertising, media, digital programs, brand positioning and sponsorship to NZR’s board.

NZR Chair and former All Black captain David Kirk believes that the two appointments will help strengthen the organisation as a whole.

“Both roles attracted high-quality candidates from New Zealand and offshore. After a thorough process, the Board is confident these appointments strengthen the capability of our Executive team to deliver a successful, growing and profitable organisation,” Kirk said in a NZR statement.

The two new additions to NZR will join the executive team at the end of February, while a search for the organisation’s CEO is still ongoing.

Current interim NZR CEO Steve Lancaster will remain in his role for the near future, with the board continuing the process of recruiting and appointing a new CEO.

Kirk also adds that the board is “taking our time” in appointing the new CEO and that Lancaster’s leadership throughout this process has been excellent.

“Over the past year, NZR has consolidated under one CEO and Executive team. Alongside a refreshed strategy, this has enabled the organisation to be more efficient, collaborative and accountable. The requirements for the CEO role have evolved over this period and the Board is taking our time to make the right appointment.

“Steve is doing an excellent job leading NZR through a period of transition. His understanding of the game, from community to high performance, is highly valued. He has the Board’s full support as he continues in the role.”
