The end is in sight as Louis Bielle-Biarrey plots his future

French superstar winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey is closing in on a two-year contract extension with Bordeaux-Bègles that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2029.

Bielle-Biarrey, 23, has scored 29 tries in 27 appearances for Les Bleus and been named Player of the Tournament in each of the last two Six Nations after helping France secure back-to-back titles.

He entered the final year of his current agreement in July and has been in talks with Bordeaux president Laurent Marti for weeks in a bid to reach a new agreement.

Although he wasn’t likely to leave, minor details, including his Adidas deal, have taken time to iron out. The latest reports from France suggest the end is now in sight.

Bielle-Biarrey is set to receive a hefty pay rise from Bordeaux, reflecting his status as one of the biggest stars in the world game. However, Bordeaux still have to accommodate his improved terms within the Top 14 salary cap.

He was rested for France’s Nations Championship campaign this summer and said in an interview with L’Equipe that he has set his sights on World Cup success in 2027.

“We’re pretty good. Honestly, without betraying a secret, it’s going very well. In absolute terms, I want to stay at the UBB, a club that works well and in which I feel good.

“I would still like to win titles, including the Top 14 of course. But what obviously makes me dream the most is the World Cup. It’s the Grail. We will be serious contenders in 2027, and we should not miss it.

“In 2023, I was still young, and I had not realised too much. But the more I think about it, the more I tell myself that the opportunity was huge and that we didn’t get far. I hope we will feed on this frustration,” he said.
