Social media post gets sarcastic response from Henry Slade

By any stretch of the imagination, Exeter Chiefs’ 17-15 win over Newcastle on Saturday was a tough watch.

Whilst the two other Gallagher Premiership matches played that day were feasts of running rugby, Bath and Gloucester overcoming Harlequins and Bristol in high-scoring clashes, the Chiefs played their get-out-of-jail card to edge a scrappy affair that was low on entertainment and quality.

The Chiefs were only in the lead for 10 minutes of the match and owed their third league win of the season to a late and controversial Greg Fisilau try, which could have easily been chalked off for foul play at the ruck earlier in the move.

The match was pock-marked by 27 penalties, and the Chiefs’ high turnover rate also contributed to a stop-start match between the Premiership’s two bottom teams.

Afterwards, the Exeter Chiefs fan-led podcast, TribeTalking, posted: ‘Love feeling miserable after a win. Got away with that one lads’, which prompted a sarcastic response from Chiefs legend Henry Slade, whose conversion of Will Rigg’s early try ultimately separated them from the Falcons.

Slade wrote: ‘Nice and positive from you guys as always.’

TribeTalking didn’t back down, replying, ‘Sladey, we love you man, and we’ll follow you boys everywhere, but yesterday was like watching your parents have sex. Awkward and not exactly a turn on.’
