Saracens sack young star as second player stood down
Saracens have confirmed that senior academy player Totoa Auvaa has left the club with immediate effect, while a second member of their men’s senior academy has been stood down over a separate incident.
Both statements were released on Monday, with the first relating to an incident in St Albans on the evening of Saturday, October 10. The player involved has not been named and has been removed from all club duties while an internal investigation takes place.
Auvaa, 21, had previously been involved in an incident in June that also featured England cricketers Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson following the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s.
Saracens said at the time they were establishing the facts surrounding that matter, with Auvaa subsequently remaining part of the club’s academy set-up until Monday’s announcement.
Despite releasing the two statements, the club have not linked the two cases, with the latest St Albans incident involving a different academy player.
Saracens’ statement on Auvaa reads in full: “Saracens can confirm that Totoa Auvaa, a member of the Senior Men’s Academy, has left the club with immediate effect.
“Following an incident this weekend, the club has determined that his conduct falls short of the standards expected of everyone who represents Saracens, both on and off the pitch.
“We take our responsibilities to our supporters, young people and partners seriously and we remain committed to upholding the standards of our conduct expected across the club.
“We will not be making any further comment on this matter.”
Their second statement reads: “Saracens is aware of an incident involving a member of the Men’s Senior Academy in St Albans on the evening of Saturday 10 October.
“The player involved has been stood down from all club duties with immediate effect while the club carries out a thorough internal investigation to establish the facts.
“Saracens expects the highest standards of conduct from everyone representing the club. We will make no further comment until the investigation has concluded.”
