Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has been crowned the world’s best by RugbyPass journalists, with the fly-half ranked first overall in the Top 100 2025. The Springboks dominate the pointy end of these rankings, with six players selected in the top 10.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu helped South Africa win the World Rugby U20 Championship in 2022, starring opposite England’s Fin Smith in a clinical 30-22 triumph. Three years on, some fans already believe the playmaker is destined to become the best Springbok of all time.

The 23-year-old is one of the big movers in the RugbyPass Top 100, rising 46 places after a career-best season in a Springboks jersey. Feinberg-Mngomezulu made 11 Test appearances this year, including standout performances against France and Ireland in the Quilter Nations Series.

South Africa took out their second consecutive Rugby Championship title by winning four of their six matches, before a series of statement performances during the November international window. Feinberg-Mngomezulu received Player of the Match honours against Les Bleus at Stade de France.

RugbyPass notes in the Top 100 that Feinberg-Mngomezulu led the way for Tier One players in tackle evasion (57%) and dominant carry rate (69%). Feinberg-Mngomezulu has also scored more tries than any other Springboks No. 10 in history, overtaking Morne Steyn and Handre Pollard.

2024 winner Antoine Dupont has dropped down one place after spending most of the 2025 calendar year on the sidelines with a knee injury. South Africa’s Pieter-Steph du Toit rounds out the top three after another impressive campaign in green.

World Rugby Player of the Year Malcolm Marx has been ranked fourth, while All Blacks Player of the Year Ardie Savea is fifth. Springboks pair RG Snyman and Thomas du Toit are sixth and seventh respectively, with du Toit earning selection in the top 100 for the first time.

France winger Louis Bielle-Biarrey has moved up 50 places into eighth spot, while Springboks great Eben Etzebeth drops a handful of places into ninth. Finn Russell completes the top 10, with the Scotland and British & Irish Lions fly-half moving up two spots.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu ranks fifth for the biggest movers up in 2025. Len Ikitau has risen 66 spots, while Cam Roigard (51) and Bielle-Biarrey (50) round out the top three for that statistic. France’s Thomas Ramos is ranked 26th in the world after surging up the standings by 48 spots.

There are 17 Springboks in the top 100, while the All Blacks are well-represented with 16 selections. England and Ireland have 13 representatives each, France have 10, and the Wallabies have eight.

Nice. The top ten players in the world whose last names don’t start with the letters K-O-L-B-E.

He’s a class player and he deserves to be on here and he’s also a very good kicker although I do think marx should maybe have been top of the list but it’s just different opinions

A sensible logical choice. Nailed on best player in the world.

I’d go for most influential player in 2025.

I don’t have an issue with this choice, but he’s in no way ‘nailed on’ as the best player in the world. SFM, Marx, PSDT, Savea, LBB, and Itoje would all be pretty reasonable selections as the world’s best player.

Why England may be in better shape to win the 2027 Rugby World Cup than France

This is all very glass half full but when you look at the cold hard facts you have to ask yourself where Englands defence will develop in the next 18 months? You also have to ask if 18 months and 15 or so matches is enough time to develop their attacking game under Borthwick. Clive Woodward had an awesome top class coaching staff with a squad that included top of class players right through the backs and forwards and world beating leaders. They were the envy of the World for the 2 or 3 years leading up to the 2003 world cup and scored wins in NZ and Australia before the tourney and away to South Africa a couple of years prior to that. This England side has no big match temperament, have not won away from home against any of the big sides including in France where they butchered 2 games in a row in the last 3 years. In NZ they also butchered a chance to win. When the pressure comes this team rarely finds a way to win. France have at least picked up wins in Ireland and at Twickenham. They havent covered themselves in glory on their southern tours but their impressive home record is in tact bar the loss to South Africa last year and the terrible loss to Ireland in 2024. France have an awe inspiring backline with magicians right through, they have plenty of power in forwards and world leading coaches. Add to that the brilliant Top 14 and I rate they are better off than the English. Sure they have their problems but I aint buying even the suggestion that England are better placed to win the showpiece than them.
