All of a sudden, life looks a little different for the Red Roses. After back-to-back defeats against Canada north of the border, John Mitchell’s side returned to winning ways in style against the USA Women’s Eagles.

By full-time, the scoreboard read 55-12 in favour of the visitors, who scored nine tries at Sports Illustrated Stadium. Claudia Moloney-MacDonald crossed for four of them, while Megan Jones, Mia Venner, Bryony Field, Maddie Feaunati and Sadia Kabeya also got on the scoresheet. Hope Rogers’ 24th-minute try and Bella Vogel’s conversion accounted for the USA’s points.

It will be six months before we see England in action again, but they head into the break with plenty of reasons to smile, knowing there is more to come from this side.

Here is how the Red Roses rated in New Jersey…

15. Emma Sing – 8

England’s leading light in attack. In the first half, Emma Sing made more carries (11) than any of her teammates and completed more line breaks (four). Those carries helped her rack up 101 metres and played a significant role in England’s attacking success. After an attritional outing last time out, Sing finally had the space to stretch her legs and showcase the full range of her attacking game.

14. Mia Venner – 7

After a marauding run in the first half, Mia Venner eventually got her reward with a try after the break. The Gloucester-Hartpury flyer regularly looked to run the ball back at the USA, using her pace to break through the backfield and link up with teammates. She finished with an impressive 51 metres from eight carries.

13. Megan Jones – 8

A really assured performance from England’s captain. Jones crossed for a first-half try and contributed plenty in both defence and attack, putting in the tackles and carrying hard throughout. She also provided the assist for Claudia Moloney-MacDonald’s fourth try and carried the ball more than anyone in New Jersey [14 times].

12. Tatyana Heard – 7.5

Back in the starting XV, this was much more like the Tatyana Heard we have come to expect in a Red Roses jersey. She carried strongly at the defensive line, consistently putting England on the front foot, while also making 15 tackles at Sports Illustrated Stadium. An encouraging return to the starting side.

11. Claudia Moloney-MacDonald – 8.5

Claudia Moloney-MacDonald had already completed her hat-trick early in the second half before adding a fourth try by the 50th minute. Back in the starting XV for the first time since England’s defeat in Toronto, the Exeter Chiefs back looked a player full of confidence. Her quick thinking and instinctive finishing were evident in all four tries. A sensational individual display.

10. Holly Aitchison – 7.5

This was exactly the kind of game in which Holly Aitchison thrives. With more space and broken-field opportunities, the Sale Sharks playmaker was able to bring the Red Roses’ attack together and dictate the tempo. She had already registered two try assists by half-time.

9. Flo Robinson – 7.5

It wasn’t just Flo Robinson’s passing from the base of the ruck that impressed. The scrum-half distributed the ball effectively, but her defensive contribution was equally eye-catching. She had made 12 tackles by half-time and was constantly around the action. An excellent first start in an England jersey.

1. Mackenzie Carson – 7.5

A really impressive outing from Mackenzie Carson. She was a formidable presence in defence, making 18 tackles, while also helping England maintain a 100% scrum success rate during her time on the pitch. A thoroughly solid performance before her replacement in the 50th minute.

2. Amy Cokayne – 7.5

A quieter performance than we have come to expect from Amy Cokayne, but the 30-year-old was still dependable throughout. She made 11 tackles, while England’s lineout functioned impressively with her at the heart of it. A reliable contribution as the Red Roses returned to winning ways.

3. Maud Muir – 7

Among England’s leading tacklers during her 50-minute stint, Maud Muir completed 14 tackles and made six carries. She also played her part in a scrum that enjoyed a 100% success rate during her time on the pitch. Another hard-working performance from the Gloucester-Hartpury prop.

4. Morwenna Talling – 8

Another typically industrious performance from Morwenna Talling. The 24-year-old was a constant presence in the collision area, putting her shoulder into the challenge on 18 occasions. She rarely grabs the headlines, but her work rate and physicality have made her one of England’s most consistent performers throughout the WXV Global Series.

5. Lilli Ives Campion – 7.5

Called England’s lineout superbly against the Eagles and delivered another busy performance around the pitch. Ives Campion made 11 tackles and contributed several carries, doing plenty of the unglamorous work that allows others to shine. She may not always attract the headlines, but her contribution was invaluable.

6. Abi Burton – 7.5

A composed and understated performance from Abi Burton. She brought the right level of intensity to the contest, finished among England’s five leading tacklers with 15 and made several useful carries. A dependable contribution in the back row.

7. Sadia Kabeya – 8

With England’s attacking play taking centre stage in New Jersey, much of Kabeya’s work went somewhat under the radar. As the second half progressed, the flanker emerged among the leading tacklers with 19 and was a constant nuisance for the USA. She also got her reward with a late try, keeping the scoreboard ticking over and pushing England’s lead towards the half-century mark.

8. Maddie Feaunati – 8

A slightly subdued start from a player who has been England’s most consistent performer in 2026. We have seen some truly outstanding performances from Maddie Feaunati this year, but this was not quite her day. Even so, the Exeter Chiefs back-row still managed nine carries and nine tackles. She eventually got on the scoresheet when Zoe Aitchison’s no-look pass sent her racing under the posts.

Replacements – 7

England’s replacements made sure the intensity never dropped after their introduction. Bryony Field scored with just her second touch, while replacement props Hannah Botterman and Sarah Bern helped maintain the forwards’ dominance. Ellie Kildunne thrived in the space that opened up in broken field, while Alex Matthews also impressed with her carrying and defensive work. A strong collective contribution from the bench.
