Trailfinders Women hooker Hayley Jones has been added to John Mitchell’s England Red Roses squad ahead of their Guinness Women’s Six Nations match with Wales.

Last week, ahead of England’s 84-7 win over Scotland in Round 2, it was confirmed that Saracens hooker May Campbell had been ruled out of the Women’s Six Nations with a knee injury.

No replacement hooker was drafted into the squad on that occasion. Jones has joined the Red Roses fresh from scoring a try for England U21 Women in their 51-12 win over Scotland U21 Women to begin their Six Nations Women’s U21 Series campaign.

The 19-year-old joined up with the Red Roses squad at Pennyhill Park on Monday 20 April as preparations began for the visit of Wales to Bristol’s Ashton Gate Stadium this Saturday.

In 2024 Jones signed a five-year contract with Premiership Women’s Rugby side Trailfinders while still in her second year at Henley College.

The teen will act as cover for senior England duo Amy Cokayne and Connie Powell, who have taken part in the past two match day squads for the Red Roses at the start of the Women’s Six Nations.

Mitchell included Jones in his January training camp that kick-started a new Women’s Rugby World Cup cycle for the world champions.

Jones was joined by Trailfinders teammates Annabel Meta, Jasmine Adroni and Haidee Head in that camp.

Haineala Lutui, who scored her first England try against Scotland last weekend, also went to Pennyhill Park four months ago.

England host a Wales team yet to pick up a win in the Women’s Six Nations. So far this Championship, Sean Lynn’s side have lost matches against Scotland and France in Cardiff.

This weekend they come across the Prince of Wales Bridge to Ashton Gate Stadium, which sold out of general admission tickets at the start of April.

The venue is the scene of England’s quarter-final and semi-final victories at last year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup.
