Netherlands WXV squad confirmed after routing Scotland A in Amsterdam

The Oranje Dames XV have named the squad that will compete in the WXV Global Series Challenger this month.

The Netherlands prepared for their trip to Hong Kong China with a 33-0 win over a Scotland A team coached by Claire Cruikshank.

Linde van der Velden scored a brace in Amsterdam, while Mariet Luijken and Esmee Ligtvoet were also try scorers last Saturday.

It was the final home fixture for the team’s head coach, Gareth Gilbert, who will return to his native South Africa after the WXV Global Series Challenger.

Gilbert has spent 15 years with Rugby Nederland, coaching at various different levels within the organising body.

Ahead of his team’s clash with Scotland A, he said: “I am eternally grateful to Rugby Netherlands for all the opportunities I’ve been given – as a player, a coach, and an administrator within the sport.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with incredibly driven people at every level of the development pathway.

“The fact that I now have the chance to take the next step in South Africa doesn’t change how much this country and this sport mean to me. The Netherlands will always hold a special place in my heart.”

At Kai Tak Youth Sports Ground, the Netherlands will play Samoa, Brazil and Fiji on consecutive weekends.
