Mills kicks Worcester to shock win over Saracens

Worcester Warriors’ Ryan Mills

Worcester Warriors gave their survival hopes a major shot in the arm with a shock victory over reigning Premiership champions Saracens on Saturday.

Although Sarries were missing a host of key players due to Six Nations commitments, they would still have been expected to triumph at Sixways.

However, eight penalties from Ryan Mills enabled Worcester to prevail 24-18 – denying their visitors the chance to replace Wasps at the top of the table.

Chris Ashton and Schalk Brits each touched down for Saracens and a late Ben Spencer penalty earned the consolation of a losing bonus point.

Worcester’s third win of the season sees them close the gap to 10th-placed Sale Sharks to six points.

Saturday’s other Premiership fixture saw Leicester Tigers move into the top six with an emphatic 34-9 success against Gloucester.

Leicester were 17-3 up inside 24 minutes, despite losing Freddie Burns early on to a head injury, and never looked likely to be pegged back thereafter.
