Milestone awaits Van der Merwe in Scotland team with two debutants
Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe will earn his 50th cap on Saturday against the USA at Scottish Gas Murrayfield.
Scotland’s highest try-scorer will start on the wing in a side captained by centre Stafford McDowall, partnered by his club-mate Darcy Graham on the other flank.
With Sione Tuipulotu absent, his Glasgow Warriors team-mate McDowall will not only start at inside centre, but captain the side for the third time, having been given the responsibility against the Maori All Blacks in the summer and against Portugal in 2024.
Gregor Townsend will hand out debuts to Edinburgh duo Liam McConnell and Harri Morris in the first match of Scotland’s autumn campaign, which will be followed by contests with the All Blacks, Argentina and Tonga. Flanker McConnell will start on the blindside, while hooker Morris will deputise for club-mate Patrick Harrison.
With England and France-based players unavailable for this match, Adam Hastings will start in Finn Russell’s place, while Kyle Rowe will wear the No.15 jersey usually worn by Blair Kinghorn.
