Louis Bielle-Biarrey breaks Six Nations record in win over Italy
When Louis Bielle-Biarrey used his pace to touch down Antoine Dupont’s kick ahead and score the game’s first try against Italy in Lille on Sunday, he became the first player to score in eight consecutive rounds of the Six Nations.
Bielle-Biarrey had gone into the match sharing the record with England’s Tommy Freeman but now stands on his own, having started his unprecedented spree at the start of last year’s championship.
The 22-year-old sensation has bagged 24 tries in 25 caps, including a record eight in the 2025 Six Nations. In this year’s edition, he crossed twice against Ireland and has since added further scores against Wales and now Italy.
At this rate, Damian Penaud’s all-time France record haul of 40 tries will be under threat before Rugby World Cup 2027 is over.
His Bordeaux-Begles teammate is only 16 behind and with a strike rate of virtually one per Test, it will only be a matter of time before Bielle-Biarrey overtakes him.
Past form suggests that Bielle-Biarrey is likely to extend his own record to 10 consecutive rounds if he stays injury free.
France head to Murrayfield in a fortnight’s time knowing that a fourth straight bonus-point win over Scotland would see them recpature the title with a round to spare.
Bielle-Biarrey has scored three tries in four appearances against Scotland, while his record against England, Les Bleus’ final round opponents in Paris is two from two.
However, the last time he failed to cross the whitewash in a Six Nations fixture was against France’s cross-Channel rivals in Lyon in round five of the 2024 championship.
Rugby World Cup holders, South Africa, are the only top 10-ranked team who Bielle-Biarrey has failed to score against.
