Kurtley Beale set for return from long-term injury against Blues

95-Test Wallaby Kurtley Beale has been named at fullback for the Western Force ahead of this Friday’s clash with the Blues, marking a remarkable return from an Achilles injury. Beale suffered the devastating injury in June last year, while on the cusp of a Wallabies recall.

After joining the Force midway through the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season, the experienced playmaker made seven appearances. Beale would later receive the unfortunate injury setback while playing for Randwick in the Shute Shield.

Beale has been rehabbing at the Force since the start of the year, and that hard work has paid off with coach Simon Cron naming the Wallaby in this week’s starting side. Mac Grealy has been superb at fullback this season but shifts to the left wing instead.

Harry Potter will start on the right wing, while in-form utility Bayley Kuenzle moves into the midfield at outside centre. Kuenzle will partner Hamish Stewart, who lines up outside the new-look halves pairing of Henry Robertson and Ben Donaldson.

In the forwards, captain Jeremy Williams returns after being a late withdrawal from the side that played the Chiefs due to calf soreness. Red Prinsep is also elevated to the run-on side as the starting No. 8.

Ryan Coxon joins one-Test England international Nic Dolly and Tom Robertson in the front row, while captain Williams and Darcy Swain are the locks. Nick Champion de Crespigny starts at blindside flanker, with Carlo Tizzano on the other side of the scrum, and Prinsep at the back.

On the bench, Force Academy hooker Albert Alcock, 21, is in line to debut at Super Rugby level after being named in the reserves. This selection follows the debuts of Doug Philipson and Fatongia Paea last time out.

Everyone knows Robertson is not supposed to be doing the coaching

Yeah it’s not actually that I’m against the idea this is not good enough, I just don’t know whos responsible for the appalling selections, whether the game plan will work, whether it hasn’t worked because Razor has had too much input or too little input, and whether were better or worse for the coachs not making it work against themselves.

I think that’s the more common outlook rather than people panicking mate, I think they just want something to happen and that needs an outlet. For instance, yes, we were still far too good for most in even weaker areas like the scrum, but it’s the delay in the coaches seemingly admitting that it’s been dissapoint. How can they not see DURING THE GAME it didn’t go right and say it? What are they scared of? Do they think the estimation of the All Blacks will go down in peoples minds? And of course thats not a problem if it weren’t for the fact they don’t do any better the next game! And then they finally seem to see and things get better. I’ve had endless discussions with Chicken about what’s happening at half time, and the lack of any real change. That problem is momentum is consistent with their being NO progress through the year. The team does not improve. The lineout is improved and is good. The scrum is weak and stays weak. The misfires and stays misfiring. When is the new structure following Lancasters Leinster going to click?
