Scottish-qualified centre Kienan Higgins has signed for Edinburgh on a one-year deal, with the 26-year-old rejoining the club from Major League Rugby side New England Free Jacks ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Higgins is no stranger to Hive Stadium, having previously been at the club on a short-term basis in January, arriving from New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship (NPC) side Hawke’s Bay.

The New Zealander has spent the intervening months with New England Free Jacks in Major League Rugby, starting all seven of his appearances at inside centre.

Higgins’ younger brother, Riley, will also be at the club next season, having signed a three-year deal in April.

Speaking about his impending return to Edinburgh, Kienan Higgins said: “I am absolutely delighted to be coming back to Edinburgh. I loved my time here earlier in the season and I can’t wait to see the squad again – there are some brilliant people at this club.

“It’s obviously an incredible bonus that I get to come back alongside Riley; to play alongside my brother at the same club is something pretty special.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time with the Free Jacks and I’m grateful to everyone there for the experience, but Edinburgh is where I want to be. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in this summer and being back in the city.”

Head coach Sean Everitt added: “We really enjoyed working with Kienan during his time here and we’re delighted to welcome him back this summer.

“He made a strong impression during his spell with us and we’re excited about what he can bring to the squad on a longer-term basis. He will add further competition in what is already a very competitive midfield group.”

Thats cool the bros will be playing together, unfortunately we hadn’t seen that in NZ (only ever seen Riley in wellington).

Kianan was a joy to watch pitting his free running style against the best in the NPC, hope he goes well.
