Former Australia U20 captain among new faces in Wallabies squad
Former Australia U20 captain Teddy Wilson and loosehead prop Tom Lambert could make their Wallabies debuts next month, with Les Kiss including the uncapped prospects in a 33-man squad for the November Nations Championship Tests.
Wilson captained Australia at the World Rugby Junior World Championship in 2023 and has been a matchday regular for the NSW Waratahs since then. The No. 9 made 14 appearances for the Tahs during Super Rugby Pacific last season, before suiting up again during Super Rugby AUS.
The scrum-half helped Easts win the Shute Shield on September 5, playing alongside Waratahs teammate Sid Harvey. Wilson has been rewarded with a spot in the Wallabies, marking his first call-up to the top squad.
Lambert is another potential debutant in the group, called up after an impressive Super season with the Waratahs. The front-rower will wear maroon next season though, having inked a two-year deal with the Queensland Reds.
Kiss has made some significant selection calls, with former All Black turned Wallaby Aidan Ross among those omitted. Nick Champion de Crespigny, Toby Macpherson, Zane Nonggorr, Harry McLaughlin-Phillips, Jordan Petaia and Kalani Thomas have also missed out.
Fly-half Carter Godon is back in the mix after overcoming a leg injury. Second-rower Miles Amatosero has been recalled as well, but will first play for a star-studded Australia A side against a USA XV in Nashville this weekend.
The Wallabies will leave Australia for the United Kingdom next Saturday.
“There’s a real buzz among the squad as we prepare for what will be four incredibly demanding matches against high-quality opposition as part of the November Nations Championship Tests,” Kiss said
“As coaches, we’ve made some tough selection calls to keep building depth across the board and we know a tour like this will challenge the whole squad on many levels.
“This Tour gives us another valuable opportunity to test new combinations, strengthen our existing connections and push our game forward in all areas.”
