Italy's Lorenzo Pani undergoes surgery following training injury
Italy and Zebre Parma wing Lorenzo Pani has undergone surgery following a fracture suffered in training.
Pani was not named in Gonzalo Quesada’s wider Italy Six Nations squad.
Zebre Parma said in a statement on Sunday afternoon: “Lorenzo Pani underwent surgery on January 23rd at the City of Parma Nursing Home by Dr. Antonia Russomando. The surgery consisted of osteosynthesis of the left scaphoid following a fracture suffered in training. The surgery was successful without any complications and the athlete is in good condition.
“Pani will now continue with the rehabilitation process. His condition will be evaluated as therapies progress.”
The 6’4 winger debuted for Italy in the 2023 Summer Nations Series. He has played eight matches across the Six Nations, Summer Nations Series and Rugby World Cup, scoring three tries and amassing 487 Test minutes on the field.
Pani has been a consistent presence for Zebre at club level in the United Rugby Championship (URC) and Challenge Cup. Over three seasons, he has played 30 URC matches, starting 24, scoring seven tries, and accumulating 1,995 minutes of game time. In the Challenge Cup, he featured in six matches, starting all.
Prior to Zebre Parma he played three matches for Benetton, including two URC games and one Challenge Cup match.
