Italy coach Andrea Moretti agrees Top 14 job ahead of next season
Bayonne have recruited Italy forwards coach Andrea Moretii on a two-year deal ahead of next season.
The former Italy hooker will join the Basque club as they look to rebuild following a disappointing Top 14 campaign where they currently sit in 12th place.
RugbyPass understand that Moretti will remain in his role with Italy, whom he joined from Zebre in 2021 alongside Kieran Crowley.
The appointment comes after a promising Guinness Six Nations campaign for the Azzurri, where a final-day defeat to Wales prevented them from winning three matches in a Championship for the first time ever.
Under Moretti’s stewardship, Italy finished with the second-strongest scrum in the Championship, winning 85.7 per cent of their own scrums and 22.6 per cent of opposing scrums, compared to just 4.2 per cent by champions France.
In a brief statement shared on their website, Bayonne wrote: “Andrea Moretti, currently on the staff of the Italian national team, will join the Sky Blues for 2 years starting next season!
“Bayonne, its president Philippe Tayeb and its supporters are very happy to welcome Andrea.”
