Jemima Adams-Verling, Sophie Barrett, Beth Buttimer, Caitríona Finn, Kate Jordan, Lucia Linn and Alana McInerney are all yet to win their maiden Ireland caps, but have impressed in Celtic Challenge and Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial Championship action.

The squad will assemble in Dublin as preparations for their WXV Global Series campaign gather pace. In September, Ireland will host home fixtures against the USA Women’s Eagles and Japan.

Bemand’s side will host Japan for a second Test outside of the WXV Global Series window, before traveling to South Africa in October to take on the Springbok Women in back-to-back fixtures.

Scott Bemand, Ireland Women head coach, said: “The WXV Global Series is a hugely exciting addition to the international calendar and creates meaningful, high-level competition for players and teams at a crucial point in the season.

“Coming on the back of a strong Vodafone Interprovincial Championship, this programme gives us the opportunity to bring together a talented group, continue to develop depth across the squad and provide players with important game-time opportunities in an international environment as we look to carry forward the positive momentum and progress made during the Guinness Women’s Six Nations.

“It’s particularly pleasing to see seven uncapped players included. The Interpros highlighted the quality of talent coming through the system, and this is an excellent chance for those players to challenge themselves, bring their own strengths to the group and help raise standards as they push for international honours.

“We’re looking forward to getting into camp and beginning preparations for what promises to be some brilliant home games in Dublin, Galway and Cork before we head to South Africa for a two Test tour.”

Yes, I think Ireland should be playing Scotland’s games, it seems a bit haphazard.

Ireland ought to win all their games as all their opposition are ranked below them. For a side trying to close the gap on the top 4-a game against a NZ or Canada would probably have been more helpful at this stage but presumably fixtures will rotate each autumn (though obviously next year they have chosen to hold a lions tour in September so who knows what next years fixtures will look like)

How the All Blacks left ‘waarheid’ behind at the Garden of Eden

NZ learned some tough lessons in SA and its good to see the coaches are addressing those against an Aus Side that was good under the high ball against the Boks only 2 weeks prior. The NZ attacking game was fantastic but the Aus defence really poor and static. NZ were always going to get their outcomes on attack against a defence that allowed them to play in front of it. JAS was especially poor missing numerous tackles while Harry Wilson showed why he deserves to start with a superhuman 28 tackles. His work rate around the park and quality at lineout was fantastic. NZ also struck a good balance. The kick pass ratio was just over 8 and they sent 25 kicks up showing they arent a one trick pony looking to build rucks and play from everywhere. They were battle hardened after RGR and their intensity and physicality was way too much for the Wallabies despite having some crucial injuries.

SA derby weekend showed high scoring games which seem like they are moving on trend but thats deceptive. Look closer and the winning stormers built a mind-blowingly low 45 rucks forcing the Sharks into just 60 tackles with over 60 kicks and less than 120 passes per side. In the Bulls win just 54 rucks were built by them and the Lions had just 51 with less than 100 tackles per team and just less than 240 passes combined. Its like watching rugby in slow motion from another world. The Springboks are the best team in the world but local rugby is hardly progressive. The teams from SA must be glad then they are in the URC and champs cup which force them to play against external trends. The Boks are still the best in the world but the game is speeding up. They showed they can play high tempo in Chicago when the stakes are lower and the series loss is not on the line. Tony Brown is leaving soon, the Boks must make best use of him before he goes. This year it seems like for the first time since 2022 the Boks are not truly innovating but rather trying to maintain the status quo and they had to fight with everything they had to do that against the AB’s. Heavy is the head that wears the crown
