Hurricanes bolster squad with signing of six-time Super Rugby champion

The Hurricanes have called upon six-time Super Rugby Pacific champion Bryn Hall to back up Cameron Roigard for the 2027 season, signing the former Crusaders and Blues halfback on a one-year deal.

Hall, who has played 123 Super Rugby appearances, returns to the competition following a stint with the Shizuoka Blue Revs and the Kubota Spears.

The experienced halfback claimed a title in each of his six seasons at the Crusaders between 2017 and 2022, and has helped North Harbour compete as one of the Hilux NPC’s leading teams in 2026.

Hall represented the Maori All Blacks on eight occasions and received a call-up to the wider All Blacks squad in 2018 during a Test against Japan. The 34-year-old also halfback captained the Junior All Blacks in the 2012 World Championship final.

Hall said it’s another great opportunity to contribute to a Super Rugby Pacific environment.

“I’m really excited to get down to Wellington to join the Hurricanes next season,” Hall said in a Hurricanes media release.

“I loved the way the club played this year with their attacking brand of footy. I can’t wait to be part of that and look forward to contributing in whatever way I can.”

Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said the club is excited to add depth at halfback and has been impressed with Hall’s quality during this season’s Hilux NPC competition.

“With a space available at halfback, we felt there was some room for experience there alongside our younger No 9s,” Laidlaw explained.

“We actually looked at Bryn a couple of years ago, but he ended up going back to Japan. For him to join us now to compete for a starting role and provide that experience to our younger halfbacks will really add to the squad.

“Everybody can see how well he has played for an outstanding North Harbour side. He’s really playing well. His kicking, distribution and all-round game has been super solid in the NPC.

“We really look forward to bringing him in, not only to play well and compete well, but to share his experiences around the club and with players and coaches. We’re really excited for him to join us and add to our depth in that position.”

Hall will join the defending Super Rugby Pacific champions in their 2027 title defence, which kicks off on Saturday, February 13 against the Blues in Auckland.
