EXCLUSIVE: We can beat all the sides in Championship - Madigan

By Ian Cameron

Bristol flyhalf Ian Madigan says he and his teammates should beat every team in the Championship – something he believes they will do given the strength of the squad.

Madigan agreed to a three-year deal in March that saw him swap Bordeaux-Begles for Bristol, where he has now notched up six appearances.

He also believes with the squad Bristol are building, they are well placed to compete in next season’s Premiership – should they be promoted.

“Saying that, if we have an off day, there are definitely sides in the Championship that could beat us,” Madigan told RugbyPass. “We feel if we are at our best, we should be promoted.”

The 28-year-old Dublin born playmaker says he has not given up on making a return to Ireland – if the right circumstances allow it.

“I definitely harbour ambitions to come back and play in Ireland,” stated Madigan, although he admits “obviously it’s more difficult doing that from abroad.

Madigan, who has made 30 Test appearances for his country, was a European Champions Cup winner with Leinster before moving to Bordeaux in 2016.
