Blues loose forward Anton Segner, Hurricanes prop Xavier Numia, and the pair of record-setting Hurricanes wingers Fehi Fineanganofo and Josh Moorby are the four rookies in line to become All Blacks.

Fineanganofo and Moorby set a new single season try scoring record with 17 tries each in the record-setting championship season.

Doubt still surrounds Fehi Fineanganofo’s long-term future in New Zealand, but while he is contracted to NZR until the end of November, remains eligible to play.

“What we know is he’s contracted here till November, so his forms been irresistible, and we’re keen to name him, so yeah. Well, I guess he’ll work through that in time,” Rennie said on Sky Sport NZ’s The Breakdown.

While many predicted Fineanganofo would have been All Black, few saw his teammate Josh Moorby getting the call.

“We all saw it on the weekend, and we’ve seen it all year,” of the Hurricanes’ pair’s ability.

“They’ve scored 17 tries, which is a record and reflects the type of rugby that the Hurricanes played, but the ability of these boys to finish.

“I look, I love their anticipation on both sides of the park, massive work ethic, and then the ability to beats defenders and finish is key.

“Excellent seasons, and both phenomenal performances on the weekend. So excited to connect with them later in the week.”

Public momentum was growing all season for Blues loose forward Anton Segner to receive an All Black call up, something that Rennie and the selectors agreed with.

Rennie said Segner was “the best player” to come out of the Blues this season and his best position was likely going to be openside.

“Anton [Segner] has been the best player to come out of the Blues, just high consistency,” he said.

“He’s been great with ball in hand, he’s stolen a lot of pill, so been excellent there. He’s a good line out forward, so he gives us a lot of versatility.

“We think he could generally be a high quality seven, but you know he’s got a really balanced skill set.”

The four new All Blacks all reacted differently when Rennie called them with the good news.

“I mean, they’re all different. One of them swore, F-word immediately. I won’t say who,” he said.

“One guy got really emotional. One of them, I was having a bit of small talk around how well they played the day before and all that sort of thing, and he’s giving me really short answers because I think he just wanted me to say, mate, you’re an All Black.”
