Canada Women’s Sevens have called in reinforcements from Premiership Women’s Rugby for the HSBC SVNS World Championship finale in Bordeaux.

Olympians Fancy Bermudez, Pamphinette Buisa and Chloe Daniels have been released from their PWR season finales for Loughborough Lightning and Bristol Bears to take part in the tournament. Larah Wright has also joined the squad after she played for Canada’s ‘Next Gen’ team that played at EAAST 7s last weekend.

The quartet replace Olivia Apps and Alysha Corrigan, who have returned to PWR club Saracens for the conclusion of the English league season, while Piper Logan is not fit after she sustained an injury on the opening day of Valladolid SVNS last week.

“We are excited to welcome Chloe, Fancy and Pamphinette back into the environment next week to help us continue to build on our performances,” Jocelyn Barrieau, Canada Women’s Sevens head coach, said. “We are happy with the performances that Olivia Apps and Alysha Corrigan put in. Their leadership and guidance are very important for our team.”

After two HSBC SVNS World Championship stops, Canada are fifth in the overall standings. Despite back-to-back fourth-place finished in Hong Kong and Spain, the USA Women’s Eagles Sevens’ second-place finish in Valladolid has seen Emilie Bydwell’s team move third in the 12-team competition.

Beaten by France and New Zealand’s Black Ferns in consecutive bronze medal matches, Canada will hope that the arrival of Olympic silver medallists Bermudez and Daniels can adequately replace the lost knowhow and brilliance of the experienced Apps, Corrigan and Logan.
