Pro D2 outfit Biarritz have immediately terminated the contract of back-row Masivesi Dakuwaqa after he allegedly bit his team-mate Pierre Pagès on a night out, requiring 20 stitches for the scrum-half.

The club released a statement at the beginning of the month saying there was an internal investigation after a player was “violently attacked and injured” by a team-mate.

The statement read: “Biarritz Olympique confirms that a serious incident occurred outside its facilities and outside any framework organized by the club involving one of its players. The incident occurred while a second player was trying to calm the situation, before being violently attacked and injured, requiring medical attention.

“The club takes this event very seriously and has immediately taken the necessary measures: An internal investigation is underway to establish the facts precisely; full cooperation is ensured with the relevant authorities; and appropriate sanctions will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.”

It was confirmed soon after that the three-cap Fiji international was the perpetrator, who attacked Pagès while the scrum-half was trying to calm a situation between the Fijian and another player. The 122kg back-row was arrested and taken into police custody following the incident.

In a statement released on Monday, Biarritz have now confirmed that the former Toulon and Montpellier star has been sacked. The statement read: “Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque announces the immediate termination of Masivesi Dakuwaqa’s contract.

“Following the internal investigation conducted by the club, the facts alleged against Masivesi Dakuwaqa made it impossible for him to continue his engagement with the club. It was mutually agreed to end his collaboration with the BOPB.

“The BOPB wishes to reaffirm its commitment to the values ??of the club and will not make any further comment on this decision.”

The 30-year-old, who was a member of Fiji’s 2016 Olympic gold medal winning squad, is due to appear in court in May 2025.
