Black Ferns' Kalounivale has red card overturned

Black Ferns prop Tanya Kalounivale has been cleared to play with immediate effect after her red card agains the USA Women’s Eagles was overturned.
Last weekend the 27-year-old prop saw a yellow card upgraded to red by the TMO in the 60th minute for making head contact during a cleanout, which was judged to have a “high degree or danger”.
Regardless of the red card – as well as yellow cards for Liana Mikaele-Tu’u and Vici-Rose Green – New Zealand managed to register a 48-15 win over the USA in their opening Pacific Four Series match in Sacramento, California.

The incident was automatically reviewed by an independent Foul Play Review Committee who referred the matter for a full disciplinary hearing. The independent Disciplinary Committee reviewed all available footage and determined that the action did not warrant a red card.
As such Kalounivale is available for Whitney Hansen’s team for this Friday’s match with Canada in Kansas City, Missouri.
It will be the first time the two teams have met since Kévin Rouet’s side beat the Black Ferns 34-19 in the Women’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals.
