Allan and Campagnaro handed Italy starts at Twickenham

Tommaso Allan and Michele Campagnaro will start for Italy when they face England in the Six Nations on Sunday as Conor O’Shea makes four changes to his side following the drubbing by Ireland.

Fly-half Allan will wear 10 at international level for the first time since facing Canada last June, with Carlo Canna dropping to the bench.

Centre Campagnaro also gets his chance at the expense of Tommaso Benvenuti, who has been named among the replacements for the clash against the defending champions and leaders at Twickenham.

Giulio Bisegni comes back in on the right wing, with Angelo Esposito dropping out of the squad, and Abraham Steyn has been restored to the back row in place of Maxime Mbanda.

Dario Chistolini was ruled out due to injury this week, so Michele Rizzo takes his place on the bench along with Pietro Ceccarelli as Italy looked to put up more of a fight then they did in a 63-10 hammering against Ireland in Rome last time out.

Replacements: Ornel Gega, Michele Rizzo, Pietro Ceccarelli, George Biagi, Maxime Mbanda, Giorgio Bronzini, Carlo Canna, Tommaso Benvenuti.

Havilli has been great, Chay Fihaki starting to really find his feet at this level.

Blues seemed quite happy to let the Crusaders have 15-20m of space to play around with for as long as they liked before the defence closed.

It’s a pretty young forward pack they put out too, got well beaten to the punch at critical times.

I thought it was a mistake to start Chay Fihaki over Macca Springer after Springer’s 5 try performance. Fihaki played very well as did Springer when he came on in the second half. Both have very good kicking games for wings in addition to pace.

Player ratings: Which England players impressed against Italy?

Sing - 6 out of 10, kicked some conversions and plodded down the wing a couple of times. Muir 8 out of 10, made a number of piercing runs and part of a dominant front row. Clifford 7.5 out of 10, effective around the park and scrummaged well. Venner - 6 out of 10, easy try but failed to convert other opportunities that Kildunne, Dow, Breach, MacDonald and Millie David would have eaten for breakfast. Shekells 7.5 out of 10, looked a very promising prospect at number 12. Perhaps I watched a different game?

It will be interesting to see in the future whether any tries scored soon after a scrum are chalked off by the TMO for a crooked scrum feed. Takeaways for me, other than an extremely mediocre 2nd half, were that Sing has only one advantage over EK and that is her place kicking. When she did get a run down the wing it was at Maher's funereal pace. Millie David is a better finisher than Venner and should be in the squad instead. Shekell looked a very likely understudy if not equivalent to Heard. Marlie Packer not a starter anymore.
