Dave Rennie names two debutants in All Blacks team to face France

Dave Rennie has named his first All Black team to play France in the opening game of the Nations Championship at One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch which includes two potential debutants.

Hurricanes prop Xavier Numia and record-setting winger Fehi Fineanganofo have been named on the bench for the All Blacks and could make their debuts.

Although there are no uncapped players in the starting 15, Rennie has made some bold calls starting in the second row with a new starting combination of Josh Lord and Sam Darry. Veteran Patrick Tuipulotu will bring experience from the bench.

The back row has also surprised with many expecting new captain to start at openside. Ardie Savea has been named at No.8, with Luke Jacobson set to wear the number 7 jersey.

Another surprise has been made at blindside, with Hurricanes flanker Peter Lakai taking the No.6 jersey over last year’s starter Simon Parker and newcomer Anton Segner.

In the halves Cam Roigard will partner in-form first five Ruben Love, with Damian McKenzie moving to fullback. Veteran Beauden Barrett has not been named in the 23.

The midfield from last year has been retained with Jordie Barrett at second five-eighth and Quinn Tupaea at centre. Billy Proctor has been named in the No.22 jersey as cover.

“There is no doubt players have forced our hand as selectors through quality Super Rugby performances. We have selected an exciting blend of experience and youth, with a powerful bench that will add impact,” Rennie said.

“We know we will be facing a formidable French side with a strong set piece, kicking game and ability to keep the ball alive, so we will need to be physical, accurate and alert. We’ve worked hard and connected well over the past nine days. That clarity will give us the opportunity to express ourselves.”
