Watch: Star All Blacks midfielder scores stunning try in URC final
Despite being on the opposite side of the world, All Blacks second-five Jordie Barrett has been part of many discussions regarding his position in the All Blacks side under Scott Robertson.
If there were any doubts about his form overseas, at Leinster, where Barrett has just won his first club trophy of his career, then surely now those questions have vanished after helping his side to a comfortable 32-7 victory over the Bulls.
Tries from Ireland internationals Jack Conan and Josh van der Flier put the game beyond reach for the Bulls, handing Leinster their first trophy since 2021, with over 46 thousand people in attendance at Croke Park in Dublin.
Barrett’s 14th-minute try in the final was a piece of individual brilliance, hacking the ball ahead after chasing a box kick, regathering and placing the ball down in the in goal.
After the final in Dublin, Barrett told Premier Sports that he would be open to a return to Leinster someday.
“I’d love to! [return to Leinster] Who knows, maybe in a few years,” Barrett said. “I’m gonna savour this experience, it’s been amazing on and off the field. I’m really grateful.”
Barrett explains to Premier Sports that this URC title means a lot for the team going forward.
“We tried to use a bit of that motivation from Europe as well. Sometimes if you try and bite off a bit too much and almost try and win the double, you don’t win the competition that’s right in front of your face.
“It can be a bit disappointing. This is going to mean a lot for this group going forward, it takes some winning. Who knows how it’s going to set us up?”
Fans across social media were also pleased with Barrett’s performance in the final, one user saying on X that “he took that Leinster backline to a new level.”
Shoutout to Jordie Barrett. He took that Leinster backline to a new level. Won the URC. A handful of medals for multiple Player of the Match awards. A successful 6-month stint abroad if ever there was one 👏

Jordie Barrett is a really consistent player, they didn’t have much ball down the line, lots of contest in breakdowns and chasing the game, – but anything that comes to him is an attacking play, much respect to him, showing that New Zealand expansive play of rugby at any time. 🏉

Stunning? A dime a dozen try in SRP, tbh.
