Coach Tomasi Cama has named one potential debutant in the All Blacks Sevens squad for the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens next weekend, with Auckland’s King Maxwell in line to play at the World Championship Series opener.

With the HSBC SVNS Series regular season now in the books, the focus shifts to the next three events to determine the World Championship winners. All eight SVNS 1 teams will compete for the top prize, joined by four qualifiers out of the second division.

Former New Zealand U20s winger King Maxwell is the only uncapped prospect named in the All Blacks Sevens travelling squad, set to wear the No. 12 jersey. Eight players have been ruled out of the event due to injury.

Ngarohi McGarvey-Black remains sidelined, while others like Jayden Keelan and Frank Vaenuku have sustained injuries after promising starts to the 2025/26 season. Regan Ware, Joey Taumateine, Scott Gregory, Sofai Notoa and Sione Molia have also been ruled out.

Tong Ng Shiu leads an All Blacks Sevens side that includes playmaker Akuila Rokolsioa, former captain Dylan Collier and flyer Michael Manson. Manson told RugbyPass earlier this season that he once hit a top rugby speed 39.9 kilometres per hour.

New Zealand will face their traditional rivals Australia in pool play the Hong Kong Sevens, drawn in a group along with the USA and Kenya. Kenya made the SVNS Singapore Cup Final last season before being relegated to SVNS 2.

SVNS 1 champions South Africa headline Pool A along with Argentina, Spain and Uruguay. The other four men’s teams in the second pool are fan favourites Fiji, Olympic gold medallists France, Great Britain and Germany.

The 50th anniversary event of the Hong Kong Sevens will take place at Kai Tak Sports Park next weekend on April 17-19.
