Which Six Nations teams compete to win the Solidarity Trophy?

France and Ireland compete annually for the Solidarity Trophy. The two teams face each other in the Six Nations each year, with the winner of this contest also winning (or retaining) the Solidarity Trophy.

In total, eight rivalry trophies are contested at the Six Nations. The others are the Millennium Trophy, Calcutta Cup, Cuttitta Cup, Doddie Weir Cup, Centenary Quaich, Giuseppe Garibaldi and Auld Alliance Trophy

In addition to the Solidarity Trophy, France also compete for the Auld Alliance Trophy (with Scotland) and the Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy (with Italy). Meanwhile, Ireland contest the Centenary Quaich (with Scotland) and the Millennium Trophy (with England). 

When was the Solidarity Trophy introduced?

The Solidarity Trophy was introduced in 2026. This means that it’s the newest of the Six Nations rivalry trophies. 

France are the current holders of the Solidarity Trophy. They won the meeting between the two sides on the opening night of the 2026 Six Nations in February 2026. 

Who designed the Solidarity Trophy?

The Solidarity Trophy was designed by Thomas Lyte, British silversmith and goldsmith and royal warrant holder to King Charles III.

The trophy itself was launched in order to honour the “the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations.”

Which team has won the most Solidarity Trophy matches?

France have won the most Solidarity Trophy matches. As of March 2026, Ireland and France have only faced each other once when the trophy was on the line. This was in February 2026, and France won 36-14.
