Wendell Sailor Bio

Wendell Sailor is a dual code international who represented Australia in both rugby league and rugby union. Since retiring, he’s worked in television presenting and has appeared on reality television shows.

Born 16 July 1974, Wendell Sailor started his career playing rugby league with the Brisbane Broncos. Between 1993 and 2001, he made almost 200 appearances for the side. He also captured the NRL title four times.

During this time, Wendell Sailor also made 16 appearances for Australia. With the national side, he captured the Rugby League World Cup in 2000, and finished as the competition’s top try-scorer and the player of the tournament.

However, in 2001, Wendell Sailor switched codes and signed for the Queensland Reds (he’d also previously enjoyed a brief spell with the Leeds Tykes in 1998 during the Australian summer).

Although his time in rugby union was relatively short-lived, Wendell Sailor made a big impact in the game. Throughout his time with the Queensland Reds, he made almost 50 appearances for the side. During this time, he also represented Australia on 37 occasions. This included the 2003 Rugby World Cup final.

At the end of his contract with Queensland in 2005, Wendell Sailor left the club and signed for the New South Wales Waratahs. Sadly, during his first season with the side, he was suspended following a doping violation.

When his ban concluded in 2008, Wendell Sailor signed for the St George Illawarra Dragons. However, he retired from the game in 2009. His final appearance on a rugby field came in the 2010 All Star game, where he represented the Indigenous team.

Since retiring from rugby, Wendell Sailor has become a television personality. As well as being a rugby pundit, he’s also become a regular on reality television in Australia.
