Scott Staniforth Bio

Scott Staniforth is a former Australian international who represented the New South Wales Waratahs, the Western Force and London Irish. He retired from the game in 2010 after sustaining a neck injury.

Known as a versatile player who could operate on the wing, at fullback and at both inside and outside centre, Scott Staniforth made a name for himself while he was still a junior. As a result, he was selected to play for the Australian Schoolboys in 1995. Following this, he also represented Australia at U19 and U21 level.

In 1997, he signed for the New South Wales Waratahs. A year later, he made his debut for the side in the Super 12 (now Super Rugby).

Scott Staniforth then spent a large chunk of his career with the Waratahs, representing the team from 1997 to 2004. During this time, he made more than 60 appearances for the team. However, at the conclusion of his contract, he left Australia and signed for London Irish in England.

Even though his stint at London Irish was relatively short (2005-06), he was highly successful. Although he only played 24 games for the team, he scored seven tries and finished as the club’s Player of the Season.

In 2006, Scott Staniforth returned to Australia and signed for the Western Force. Again, he was named as the club’s Player of the Season. He then stayed with the side until his retirement in 2010. However, he did also enjoy a brief spell with Yokogawa Musashino Atlastars in 2009-10.

Although he enjoyed a successful career domestically, Scott Staniforth found his opportunities on the international stage limited. As a result, between 1998 and 2008, he only made 12 appearances for the Wallabies. That said, he did play at the 1999 edition of the Rugby World Cup, which Australia won.

Since retiring in 2010 due to a neck injury, Scott Staniforth has worked as a director at Rugby WA. However, he’s since turned his attention to property investment and asset management.
