Jean Deysel is a retired rugby player who represented South Africa, the Sharks and Ulster.
Born 5 March 1985, Jean Deysel began his rugby-playing career with the youth team of the Griffons. However, after only a season, he moved to the Golden Lions youth setup.
In 2005, Jean Deysel made his first professional appearance for the Golden Lions in the Currie Cup. But, after only a couple of years with the side, he moved to the Sharks in order to pursue Super Rugby opportunities. His gamble proved to be successful almost immediately, and he enjoyed a very productive stint with the Sharks in both the Currie Cup and Super Rugby.
In total, between 2007 and 2016, Jean Deysel made 70 appearances for the Sharks in the Currie Cup and 78 appearances for the Super Rugby side. During this time, he won the Currie Cup three times (2008, 2010 and 2013). At this time, he also enjoyed a brief stint with Toyota Verblitz and won four caps for South Africa.
In 2017, it was announced that Jean Deysel was leaving the Sharks in order to join Munster on loan. Following a successful stint with Munster, he was released from his Sharks contract and he signed for rivals Ulster. He then enjoyed a successful season with the Irish province before retiring from rugby in 2018.
