Bio

Alisha Butchers currently plays as a flanker for the Wales women's rugby union team and Bristol Bears Women. She made her first international appearance and scored her first international try at the 2016 Women's Six Nations.

Born on 14 June 1997 in Swansea, Butchers was first introduced to rugby while at primary school. She played for numerous teams during her schooldays, including Bynea RFC, Llanelli Schoolboys and Scarlets U18s, as well as Carmarthen Quins RFC.

Her international debut then came three years later at the 2016 Six Nations, when she replaced Shona Powell-Hughes in the team's match against Ireland. Her first try occurred in the following match and the game finished 23-10 to Wales.

By 2017, Alisha Butchers had become a regular feature for both the Welsh national team and the sevens team. This included being named in the sevens squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Sadly though, an ankle injury prevented her from taking part.

Butchers reached new heights in 2019 when she was invited to join Barbarian F.C for a match against the United States - she was one of only three Welsh women selected. After a closely contested game, the Barbarians were victorious and won the match 34-33.

With regards to her club career, Butchers signed with Scarlets Ladies in 2016. She played for the club for three years before transferring to Worcester Warriors Women in 2019. One year later, she moved to Bristol Bears Women. In 2021, Butchers sustained a bad ligament injury. Thankfully though, she made a full recovery and was selected to represent Wales in the delayed 2021 Rugby World Cup.

From the sevens to the 15s, Alisha Butchers is a key player in the national team. Whether at international tournaments or in Premiership 15s games, we can't wait to watch her next match.
