Champ Rugby favourites Worcester Warriors have been dealt a blow two games into the season with the loss of captain Matt Rogerson and two other ex-Premiership stars for at least the remainder of 2025.

Back-row Rogerson and another summer signing from Leicester, Josh Bassett, and ex-Bristol winger Siva Naulago have all picked up injuries.

An medical update on the club website did not specify the nature of the injuries, stating: “We are hopeful that Warriors fans will see the trio return to action in the New Year, but in the meantime, we wish them the best of luck for their recoveries.”

To lose three players of their experience, especially two in the same position, is a blow for the Warriors, who won their opening game against Coventry but fell to a shock 28-25 defeat at Hartpury in their second fixture last weekend.

Côme Joussain, Archie Vanes and James Tyas are also in the treatment room, but aren’t expected to be sidelined for as long.

Meanwhile, the club also gave an update on the progress of experienced prop Fraser Balmain and powerful lock Obinna Nkwocha.

The statement said: “Both Fraser Balmain and Obinna Nkwocha are making positive progress on injuries which they’ve been rehabbing across pre-season, Warriors fans should expect to see the pair in a Worcester shirt for the first time before the New Year.”
