Winning the PREM will take some heavy lifting after new trophy unveiled

Having waited nearly three decades to get their hands on the Premiership trophy, the prized peice of silverware that Bath claimed at Twickenham last June, after a tense 23-21 win over Leicester, will be theirs for keeps.

The change of branding from Premiership Rugby to PREM Rugby means that a new trophy will be up for grabs in this year’s final, and while it doesn’t look much different to the old one, it is much heavier.

Lifting the trophy aloft on will feel more like a weights session than an act of celebration, whether it be George Furbank (Northampton), Ben Spencer (Bath), Ollie Chessum (Leicester), Dafydd Jenkins (Exeter) Fitz Harding (Bristol) or Maro Itoje (Saracens) who gets to do the deed.

The new PRM Rugby trophy weighs 11kgs more than the retired one, and is also taller. It is 100cm high, 56 cms wide and weighs 26kgs in its own right and 38kgs if you include the plinth and base.

Fewer than 7,000 tickets remain on sale for the 2026 season finale at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham on Saturday, June 20. And, as things stand, PREM Rugby’s data analysts suggest a repeat of last year’s final is on the cards.

The likelihood of Bath going back-to-back and adding the new trophy to the old one is 37%, according to PREM Rugby’s Champions Predictor, while the Tigers are rated a 23% chance to make it a fairytale first season in charge for Geoff Parling, just ahead of 2024 champions Northampton (21%).
