Wallabies lock in more Tests as road to Rugby World Cup takes shape

Rugby Australia has announced a slate of home Wallabies Tests ahead of Men’s Rugby World Cup 2027, with the Aussies set to take on Argentina twice and arch-rivals New Zealand to open the next edition of The Rugby Championship.

It was confirmed on June 27 that the Wallabies would kick off their international season with a historic Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup Test against the All Blacks, which will be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on April 25.

But RA has given fans more to look forward to before the World Cup, with the Wallabies hosting Los Pumas in two Tests next July. These sides will renew their rivalry with a match on July 10 at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium and another Test in Townsville a week later.

The Wallabies will then play the All Blacks at a to-be-confirmed venue on July 31. Those two sides will meet again during the Rugby World Cup, having been drawn in the same pool for the first time in the tournament’s 40-year history.

Kiss’ Wallabies will then head abroad to face the All Blacks again, and take on defending World Cup winners the Springboks twice. The final clash between the Wallabies and Boks, who faced off last weekend in Perth, will be the 100^th meeting between the sides.

Australia continue their preparation for the World Cup by taking on Ireland at Canberra’s GIO Stadium on September 18. It will be the first Wallabies Test played in the capital in a decade and it’ll also mark 100 years since the first meeting between the teams.

“From the inaugural Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup Test match to the Rugby World Cup Final, Australian supporters in 2027 will be centre stage for the greatest celebration of the international game in its 155-year history,” Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh said.

“The Wallabies’ program for 2027 is befitting such a momentous year with an epic line-up of Test matches against the biggest teams on the game’s grandest stages. Our players and coaches are deeply grateful to have connected with our great Australian Rugby community in record-breaking numbers at home Test matches in recent years and all are committed to representing our nation with passion and pride, commitment and courage in 2027.

“The last Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2003 inspired the entire nation as the Wallabies fought to the final second of the tournament. Much has transpired in the years since, but the honour of representing Australia burns as brightly as ever. We can’t wait to see our supporters at stadiums across Australia in 2027 and put in performances they can be proud of.”

Harry Wilson famously turned down a shot at the uprights, instead opting to go for the corner when the Wallabies last faced Los Pumas at Queensland Country Bank Stadium. Angus Bell went on to score a final-play match-winner.

The Wallabies remain unbeaten at the venue, having claimed a dominant victory against Japan’s Brave Blossoms this year. They backed that result up with a first-ever series win away in Argentina, which included a thrilling 28-all draw in Mendoza.

“Securing the inaugural Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup for Brisbane was a major win, but we’re equally focused on ensuring regional Queensland shares in the opportunities that come with hosting world-class sport.

“Bringing Argentina to Townsville demonstrates our commitment to growing Queensland’s events pipeline right across the state. These matches will draw visitors, support jobs and showcase Queensland to a national and international audience as we build towards the Rugby World Cup in 2027.”
