'This is just the first step': Shujaa set sights on Series return
Kevin Wambua has made just one change to his Kenya Men’s Sevens squad for the first HSBC SVNS World Championship event in Hong Kong.
Chrisant Ojwang is replaced in the squad by the vastly experienced Brian Tanga. The 30-year-old has been making his return to play after a neck injury last September which left his balance and vision affected.
Strong performances at the World Championship can qualify Germany, Kenya, Uruguay and the USA with a place on the HSBC SVNS Series for next season.
Kenya have been named in a challenging Pool C with Australia, New Zealand and fellow HSBC SVNS 2 team, USA.
Kevin Wambua, Kenya Men’s Sevens head coach, said: “This is just the first step in our journey back to the Series. We have confidence in this group of players who have shown resilience, growth, and determination.
“Hong Kong presents another opportunity for us to build on our performances and move closer to our goal, it is part of our journey to go back to the main Series.”
