Stormers player ratings: Stormers made a big claim for the URC title with a ruthless 48-12 dismantling of Glasgow Warriors in Cape Town, running in seven tries to blow apart a fellow top-of-the-table contender, and banishing last weekend’s shock loss to Connacht in the process.

Racing into an early lead, they squeezed Franco Smith’s side into submission up front before playing with freedom once the game cracked open.

Here’s our Stormers player ratings:

1. Ntuthuko Mchunu – 9
Two tries inside the opening 14 minutes – not bad for a 123kg loosehead prop. The first came off a clever penalty move, the second via a relentlessly efficient maul five metres out. Deserved man of the match.

2. André-Hugo Venter – 7
Solid if unspectacular. His throwing functioned well in a lineout that helped lay the platform for dominance, and he was busy around the fringes without demanding headlines.

3. Neethling Fouché – 5.5
A little bit of a mixed bag.  Gave a decent account of himself at the scrum time but crept offside a few too many times and missed more tackles than you want from any player, even if he’s your tighthead.  Involved in an awkward contact which injured Kyle Rowe.

4. Adré Smith – 7
Did the unseen work industriously. Cleaned rucks, supported carries and helped keep Stormers’ tempo high even when the match threatened to lose structure midway through the second half.

5. Ruben van Heerden – 7.5
Led the tight five effort in terms of carries and physical intent. Took responsibility when Stormers needed to go direct and consistently bent the line.

6. Ben-Jason Dixon – 7
Plenty of graft, particularly defensively. Was part of a back row unit that shut down Glasgow’s forward momentum before it could ever build.

7. Paul de Villiers – 8
Three turnovers across the game tell their own story. A menace at breakdown time and key in strangling any brief Glasgow resurgence after the break.

8. Evan Roos – 8.5
Classic Roos. Everywhere, all the time. Finished a superb try on the half-hour mark, showing enough pace to sprint it home – the bloke can’t stop scoring. Some one-on-one tackling still leaves room for improvement.

9. Cobus Reinach – 8
Electric in support play and constantly sniffing for space. Broke the line with ease and had a hand in multiple tries. A yellow card and a couple of turnovers lost take the shine off an otherwise outstanding display. Worryingly, he went off injured at 59 minutes.

10. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu – 8.5
Pulled the strings beautifully. Clinically accurate from the tee, devastating attacking the line and produced a pinpoint grubber for Ruhan Nel’s bonus point try. Later danced through off scrum ball himself for Stormers’ fifth. Absolutely melted Adam Hastings too.

11. Leolin Zas – 7
A predatory performance. Constantly tested the Glasgow defence, chased everything and ensured there was never a quiet moment for the visitors on his wing.

12. Dan du Plessis – 5.5
A rough afternoon summed up by reversing a hard-won scrum penalty. The physicality was there in contact, but he was guilty of getting drawn into an unnecessary niggle.

13. Ruhan Nel – 8
Tidy stuff from Nel. Read space well, finished cleanly and was alert enough to latch onto Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s grubber early in the second half to put the game beyond doubt.

14. Wandisile Simelane – 6
Busy without breaking loose. Provided width and defensive solidity, even if opportunities didn’t always fall his way. The odd flash aside, the game passed him by.

15. Damian Willemse – 7
Laid down some heavy hits on Glasgow ball-carriers and managed the backfield with authority. Not everything stuck, but his physical presence mattered.

Replacements – 7
An excellent collective contribution. Oli Kebble was outstanding in shoring up the scrum, while Keke Morabe marked a welcome return from injury with a well-worked late try. Markus Muller made history as the youngest Stormers debutant and slotted seamlessly into a side that never lost intensity.
