Emirates Lions and one time Springbok captain Warren Whiteley has been ruled out of Super Rugby action with a serious chest injury.

In November Whiteley recovered from a groin injury which ruled him out of the Boks’ previous two Tests, against the Wallabies in Port Elizabeth and the All Blacks in Pretoria in the Rugby Championship.

However, injury has struck again.

A statement reads: Emirates Lions captain Warren Whitely has a torn pectoralis major muscle (left) which he sustained in the Vodacom Super Rugby match against the DHL Stormers in Cape Town over the weekend. The tendon is intact. He should recover in 6-8 weeks. (Rob Collis, Emirates Lions team doctor).

The athletic backrow has suffered multiple injuries throughout his career, including a PCL injury this time last year.
