HSBC SVNS Series star Terio Tamani will feature in the Flying Fijians’ run-on side for the first time this weekend, with Rugby World Cup-winning coach Jake White unveiling the 23-man side to take on Japan at Tokyo’s Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium.

Tamani debuted at Test level during the Asahi Super Dry Pacific Nations Cup, which saw Fiji face hosts Japan in another PNC Final. But the Flying Fijian’s reign as champions came to an end, as the Brave Blossoms secured a gritty win.

Fiji will return to the same venue this weekend for the Japan Centennial Test, which will also be White’s first match in charge of the national team. White was unveiled earlier this month as the team’s new boss, taking over from interim coach Senirusi Seruvakaula.

Tamani has been selected in the starting XV at scrum-half, set to link up with Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula in the halves. Ben Volavola hasn’t played for Fiji in about three years but could get that chance this weekend after being named on the bench.

Joji Nasova and Nacani Boginsoko are the wingers, with Isaac Ratumaitavuki-Kneepkens the first-choice fullback. Isikeli Rabitu and Tuidraki Samusamuvodre are the centres, while White has gone with a 5-3 split in the replacements.

In the forwards, Fiji captain Tevita Ikanivere will pack down up front alongside loosehead prop Peni Ravai and tighthead prop Inoke Ravuiwasa. Mesake Vocevoce and Isoa Nasilasila make up the starting second row pairing.

Kitione Salawa scored just 21 seconds into the PNC semi-final win over Canada, and the loose forward has been selected at openside for this Test. Aporosa Vuniyayawa will pack down on the other side of the scrum, with Motikiai Murray at No. 8.
